UltiMaker Cura Part Readiness Review

This guide provides a structured readiness review for parts intended for production on UltiMaker Cura platforms. The review focuses on the physical and functional characteristics of the part itself, independent of any specific print configuration. The goal is to determine whether the part design is mature enough to warrant the investment of time and material required for a production build.

The review is organized into five stages. The first stage examines geometric readiness: wall thicknesses, overhang angles, bridge lengths, and feature accessibility. Each geometric criterion is evaluated against established thresholds that account for the capabilities of fused filament fabrication. Parts that fail geometric readiness are returned to design before any further review.

The second stage assesses dimensional readiness. Critical dimensions are identified, tolerances are verified against the part's functional requirements, and tolerance stacks are analyzed where multiple features interact. The third stage evaluates material readiness, confirming that the selected material is appropriate for the part's operating environment and that its mechanical properties are documented.

The fourth stage reviews functional readiness. The part's intended function is documented, load paths are identified, and potential failure modes are enumerated. The fifth and final stage addresses documentation readiness, ensuring that the review record is complete and that all stakeholders have signed off on the part's readiness for production.

Parts that pass all five stages are cleared for production. Parts that fail one or more stages receive a structured set of corrective actions with assigned owners and target dates. This process ensures that no part enters production without a documented, verified readiness assessment.
